A champion and a cheerful big brother

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of DSA swimmer, Goh Yue Hong, who left us all on Monday 13th July.

Yue Hong was a champion swimmer and had represented both Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, and also a SUKMA 2016 finalist. At a young age, Yue Hong started to shine when he emerged as age group champion in Group 4 in MIAG, and had continued to win numerous championships in Group 3 and Group 2. He had trained under Coach Tuck Kar since 2009. Late last year, he had decided to slow down his swimming career due to health concerns, his last Meet was the MIAG 2020 where he represented Selangor state.

Yue Hong was known to be a humble, polite and a cheerful big brother among his peers. Coaches and parents who know him personally have nothing but great things to say about him. A leader among his team mates, his unconditional support and encouragement has left a great impact in many junior swimmers who look up to him as a role model.

Yue Hong’s sudden departure has impacted all of us in DSA greatly. A young man who has gone too soon, but his fond memories will stay with us forever. Yue Hong leaves behind his mother and brother, Yue Shen, who is also with DSA as a swim teacher. Our heartfelt condolences to Yue Hong’s family at this time of bereavement and may he rest in eternal peace.

DSA staff and coaches would like to pay our last respect to honour our fallen star by observing one minute of silence during our training today. All swimmers are welcome to join the ceremony in the afternoon training in their respective centres.
