3 Meet Records and 21 Golds for DSA at 41st President Cup Meet
Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan (PADE), Shah Alam was the location for the 41st National Inter-Club Swimming Championships for the President’s Cup held on December 20-22, the last event of the Malaysian Swimming Calendar for 2024. As always being the most awaited inter-club Meet of the year, excitement ruled high for the 3 days as swimmers of all clubs and schools gave it their best.
DSA Swimming Clubs participated in the Meet with a large team of 220 swimmers across the 4 Groups and made a brilliant display of athleticism and swimming prowess finishing at the First Runner Up position. The Clubs had rewritten 3 new Meet Records and secured 21 Golds with a total of 74 medals.
Wong Shi Qi created a new Meet Record in the Girls 19 & Over 100 LC Meter Freestyle event and also won the Most Valuable Swimmer Award for Female Open Age Group while Hyeonjoong Kil added his name to the record books in the Boys 16-18 100 LC Meter Freestyle event. The third Meet Record came from the quartet of Dylan Ong Guan Khye, Elsa Eow Yeng Yii, Louise Lee and Yap Yong Jie in the Mixed 16-18 4×50 LC Meter Freestyle Relay event.
Seungmin Woo from Group 2 was outstanding at his events collecting a total of 5 Golds and also taking the title of the Most Valuable Swimmer Award for Male Group 2. Other stars were Joseph Chan Kai Xiang, Wong Shi Qi, Hyeonjoong Kil won 2 Golds each with their brilliant performance. Evan Chua Min Hao, Georgene Wee Ee Jern and Charlotte Loke took home a Gold each for their events. Other top finishers included Shermann Choong Li Sheng, Jeff Chua Yu Yang, Finlay Palmer Kay, Elsa Eow Yeng Yii, Mellissa Nailly Darwin, Yap Ke Hui, Masato Mark Fujimoto, Olivia Seow Cui Ying, Evita Tan Ee Lin and Sean Yep Zhen Him who all contributed to the finally team tally with their inspired performances. The Relay events also saw some great performances and plenty of medals apart from the record-breaking win. As the President Cup Meet concludes, the swimmers, parents, and coaches can finally enjoy a well-deserved break as they transition into the holiday season and wrap up another year of swimming. This year was packed with over 18 Meets and training sessions that kept the swimmers in peak condition. The unwavering dedication of the DSA coaches has been truly remarkable throughout this demanding yet rewarding journey.
Looking ahead, the 2025 swimming calendar kicks off with the Selangor Age Group, AKL Age Group, and Johor Age Group Meets, all set for the near end of January. These events also serve as key qualifying Meets for the MIAG and Malaysia Open. The entire team of swimmers and coaches is gearing up for the challenges ahead, and they’ll need all the support they can get.
