Evan Chua on top of the world with a staggering 11 Golds


New Meet Records, Group Overall Champions and more at Shah Alam

Selangor Age Group Swimming Championship 2024

The 33rd Selangor Age Group Swim Meet was held at Selangor Aquatic, Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan from 18-21 January 2024. Being among the first Meets of the swimming calendar for the year, the competition spirit between the swimming clubs across Malaysia was building up. The Meet being the qualifying event for Malaysia Open and Malaysia Invitational Age Group Meets was open for participants under the State and Novice category separately.

In the State Category, DSAS Swimmers were on top with many Group Champions, First and Second Runner- Ups between them. Evan Chua Min Hao was crowned State Group 2 Overall Champion with and astounding 11 Golds and 2 Bronzes while Samuel Koek Gelacio was declared the State Group 4 Overall Champion with 7 Golds and 3 Silvers in his events.

First Runner-Ups included Yeo Khaining in the State Open Group category with 3 Golds, Xin Qi in the Group 2 category with 2 Golds, 5 Silvers and 1 Bronze, and Masato Mark Fujimoto in the State Group 3 category with 5 Golds, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronzes.

Second Runner-Ups included Shannon Tan Yan Qing in the Group 2 category with 2 Golds, 4 Silvers and 3 Bronzes, Heidi Lim Pei Xin in the Group 3 category with 2 Golds, 3 Silvers and 1 Bronze and Sara Inagaki in the Group 4 category with 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 6 Bronzes.

DSAS swimmers who clinched a Gold in their events along with the Silvers and Bronzes included Hew Bo Yu, Jiang Bo Xiu, Gabrielle M.P. Hills, Kaelyn Chee Wei Yi, Neelkantha, Ng Yean Yu and Adam Jeffrey Dillon. Brilliant performers who were podium finishers included Shusuke Kobayashi, Miles Nathanael Yap, Anna Zhou, Angel Zhou, Joelle Koo Yu Qing, Chan Cze Ern, Yap Ke Hui, Kota Kobayashi, Ashley Soh Wern Yi, Sara Sophia Peeters, Hailey Chong Sue Huey, Charmaine Hung Yun Wen, Calvin Lee Shin Rong, Chong Jun Ron and Thon Kok Jin.

In the Novice Category, Jayden Yap Ee Jen was the Group 1 Overall Champion with 3 Golds and 3 Silvers. Isabelle Leong Zi Qing created a new Meet Record in her event, 1500 Meter Freestyle while also becoming First Runner up for Group 2.  Aiden Tan Yong Jia was First Runner Up for Group 2, Muhd Syahin Adham for Group 3 and Lee Kenyi for Group 4. Samuel Eng Yeung Shane took the Second Runner Up position in Group 3.

Swimmers in the Novice category who took home Golds included Zahara Ewa AlJoffery and Hyeonjoong Kil with 3 Golds each while Madeline Foo Sook Lynn, Janelle Choo, Yap Zhen Yi, Kang Zhen Tai, Ronnie Loh Kai Keet, Ethan Chee Wei Jin and Yap Jun Hin added a Gold each to the team tally with their wins.

Other Novice swimmers who reached a podium finish with their exemplary performances included Amanda Koek Gelacio, Daniella Lian Yue Yan, Ruelle Tan Ru Zac, Chong Jia Ying, Sasha Caunter Chin Liyen, Matthew Jacob Strydom, Tai Sze Wei, Olyvia Magdalene Foley, Muhammad Haziq Hariz Hazli, Chong Jun Jet, Ashton Soh Je Zhen, Danish Haiqal Ahmad Firdaus, Jamie Chee Zhia Xin, Chong En Ci, Emir Danish and Isaac Chen Yen-Bo.

In the Relay events, the Boys 12-13 years age group consisting of Masato Mark Fujimoto, Muhd Syahin Adham Muhd Saiful, Miles Nathanael Yap and Bo Yu Hew created a new Meet Record in the 4×100 Meter Freestyle Relay. Besides this DSAS Swimmers also won a total of 9 Golds and many more Silvers and Bronzes in their many events. The DSAS Swimming Club had a fantastic start to 2024 and the young swimmers were thrilled with their success during the four days of intense competition. Bravo to the group of parents, coaches, and well-wishers who have all given it their all and will keep doing so as the Meets go on this year.
