DSA Swimmers win 36 medals with 15 Golds and 1 Meet Record
The 66th Malaysia Open Swimming Championships (MOSC) was held between 23-26 May 2024 at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil. Held in accordance with the rules and by-laws of World Aquatics, the Meet was the Qualifying Event for the Olympic Games, Paris 2024, the 46thSEA Age Group 2024 and any other international competitions as determined by Malaysia Aquatics.
A total of 50 teams and over 370 swimmers representing their nations and Malaysian states made up the list of participants. The immense participation included nations like India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Maldives apart from the neighbouring Indonesia. Special interest was the participation of nations like Denmark and the United States and a host of African nations like Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Gambia, Malawi, Madagascar, Namibia, Rwanda to name a few.
At the end of the three-day Meet, the top spot was taken by WP Kuala Lumpur with 10 Golds and 21 medals in total. A surprising second spot was Mongolia with 6 Golds who had managed to beat the other Malaysian states like Selangor and Sarawak. A total of 9 new Meet Records was created, which included DSA swimmer Phee Jinq En, who created a new Meet Record in the 50m Breaststroke for her state team, Selangor.
DSA Champion Jayden Tan was declared the Most Valuable Male Swimmer winning 2 Golds and 1 Silver for WP Kuala Lumpur. Other DSA swimmers who won Gold included Hii Puong Wei with 3 Golds and Chong Xin Lin with 2 Golds. DSA Podium finishers were Megan Ho, Lim Shun Qi, Georgene Wee and Joseph Chan Kai Xiang who all brought home medals for their spectacular performances.
In the Relay events Jayden Tan added 2 more Golds for his team, while Chong Xin Lin, Megan Ho, Vitus So Teng Hoe, Cham Yu Xiang and Shannon Tan Yan Qing won Golds for their respective teams. Annis Hiew, Olivia Seow, Lee Yen Yi, Shermann Choong Li Sheng and Hii Puong Wei were the other podium winners in the Relay events.
