DSA Swimming Club hits top spot at SportExcel First Leg
The SportExcel/Milo/NSC/MAS Junior Swimming Circuit Meet, First Leg was held during the second weekend of March 2022 after a hiatus of 2 years due to the pandemic. The venue was Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan, Shah Alam, which has been the venue of the event for the past many years. The organizer, Persatuan Renang Amatur Selangor (PRAS), had implemented extra precautions through the necessary SOPs to ensure the safety of the participants and public. There was a limit on the number of participants and spectators with vaccination being a pre-requisite for all participants and officials.
DSA Swimming Club had a total of 198 swimmers participating, and it was indeed a great victory in this First Leg, as the team came out on top, ranking First Overall with 16 Golds and a total of 49 medals. The stars of the Meet included new and young swimmers in the under 10 years age group who are going to be big names in the future. Little girls, Sophie Chan Yi Lin with 3 Golds and Olivia Seow Cui Ying with 2 Golds were the little Superstars for DSA while Evita Tan Ee Lin won a Silver in her event. The under 10 years boys included Ong Zhi Kheam with 2 Silvers and Ho Zhi Ju who added medals to the tally. It was really heartening to see the new generation of young swimmers performing their best at the Meet.
Medal winners in the older age groups included Mellissa Nailly Darwin with 4 Golds; Evan Chua Min Hao and Elsa Eow Yeng Yii with 2 Golds; Elizabeth Chan Yiwen, Sebastien Rion Azlir and Heidi Chong Zi Xin added a Gold each to the total. Annis Hiew Xin Ting, Jaden Ong Jun Xian and Hayley Cassandra Yap Hay Ee were the other medal winners who all did exceedingly well in their events. A detailed view of the medals tally is given below.
DSA Swimming Club made it to top spot, moving ahead from the second place in 2019, the previous time this Junior Swimming Circuit was held. No doubt, the pandemic had created havoc in the training conditions and fitness levels, it was indeed a great effort by the swimmers, parents and the DSA coaches to put together the team and come out winners. A big round of applause to all of them and we wish them best to keep the training and motivation going for the next round of the Circuit coming later in the year.
