DSA swimmers make international standing at Singapore Open Meet
A team of 16 swimmers from DSA Swimming Club had the privilege of participating in the 18th Singapore National Swimming Championships held at the OCBC Aquatic Centre on 21-24 June 2023. The pressure of international exposure and competing with swimmers from multiple clubs from all over Asia did not hamper the exceptional swimmers and they gave a spectacular performance which put DSA Swimming Club into the international league.
Jayden Tan who is on track preparing for his Asian Games debut coming up in the month of September this year won the Men’s 400m Individual Medley Gold in spectacular fashion. Even more, Jayden was part of the quartet including Hii Puong Wei, Franci Gabriel McCartan and Welson Sim who made history by creating a new Meet Record in the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay. It is notable that the previous record was held by the quartet of Joseph Schooling, Quah Zheng Wen, R. Luhur and K. Hyogo from a Singapore Swimming Club.
The DSA Relay quartet also took the Bronze in the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay. Besides the Relay wins, Puong Wei brought home a Bronze in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley.

DSA Juniors sparkle at Novice Meet
Huge team of 258 swimmers participate at Shah Alam
The Novice Meets are held with the objective to provide an opportunity for novice swimmers to gain competitive exposure and give them confidence to participate in competitive swimming. Novice swimmers are those who have never represented their state in any national level competitions, nor won any individual meals in any of the past State Age Group Swimming Meets. The 7th Novice Swim Meet was held at the Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan, Shah Alam on the 17-18 June 2023.
DSA participated in this Meet with a large contingent of 258 young swimmers who were all getting their preliminary exposure into the world of competitive swimming. Being a Novice Meet, the amount of participation from clubs was tremendous, so the events were long with multiple heats. The Meet went on for late hours on the first day but this did not dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the young DSA swimmers as they gave it their best while having a blast in the process.
Spectacular performances included a whopping 6 Golds by Itto Horiuchi in the Boys 10 year olds category and 5 Golds by Renee Wan Lyn in the Girls 13 year olds category. Kaira Reyes Lau and Isabelle Leong Zi Qing won 3 spectacular Golds each in their events while Aiden Zarief, Jiwoo Jung, Ivan Clement Tan and Kathleen Wong added 2 Golds each to the tally. Other Golds came from Claire Chen, Ruelle Tan Ru Zac, Marten Reuss, Ryan Wan Jieh, Jacob Tsen Ze Yu, Chew Zhen Hui and Aydan Chew Hwe Zhe with 1 Gold each.
Other medal winners bringing home Silvers and Bronzes included Ibrahim Mukhlis Bin Hadaffi Hanif, Cayden How Xuan Hee, Owen Xu Jun, Daniella Lian Yue Yan, Tee Him, Grace Ge Zi Xin, Tan Jeng Yee, Damien Cheong Min Zhe, Yusuf Ajwad Hadafi Hanif, Verda So Teng Gaa, Muhamad Akash Rifqi, Olyvia Magdalene Foley, Tay Eu Gene, Azmi Rahimi Azrul Hafiz, Jamie Chee Zhia Xin, Tan Bongkoch, Ethan Eng Yeung Zjung, Marvyn Teoh Min Wei, Kang Zhen Tai, Javan Pun Jin Wen, Cody Tan Yu Huang and Brayden Loo Kai Hin.

Youngsters shine bright at Junior Splash
DSA Swimming Club creates 2 Meet Records at Bukit Jalil
A team of 285 swimmers from DSA and DSAS Swimming Clubs participated in the MAS/NSC/MILO Junior Splash Swim Meet Leg 1 held between 03-05 June at the National Aquatic Centre. A majority of the swimmers from both the clubs were not the first-tier swimmers but mainly junior competitive swimmers. This was the first big exposure for them, and they gave a sparkling performance.
DSAS Swimming Club emerged second runner-up while DSA Swimming Club finished as fourth in the Meet. A spectacular performance by Sebastien Rion Azlir ensured that he was in the Record books for the 50 Meter Backstroke and Freestyle event in the Boys 13-14 years category. Gold medal winners included Kaylee Koh Lee Shen who won an astounding 3 Golds, Kaylee Wong and Finlay Palmer Kay who garnered 2 Golds each while Jiang Bo Xiu and Yap Ke Hui took home one Gold each. Other podium finishers included Anna Maglai, Noma Horiuchi, Henri James Johan Keeton, Pok Sin Yee, Evita Tan Ee Lin, Kota Kobayashi, Josette Ewe Xin Yue and Evan Chua Min Hao. The Relays also saw outstanding display of teamwork and competitive spirit with DSA winning 6 Golds and 22 other podium finishes with Silvers and Bronzes.
A big round of applause goes to these young junior swimmers who put up such a superb performance and it is definitely something to be very proud of. Congratulations also to each and every parent of the Clubs and the team Coaches who have been striving hard in guiding these youngsters in their performance.

‘Butterfly’ Megan soars to Meet record at Shah Alam
DSA Swimming Club register Top Honours at SportExcel Meet
The SPORTEXCEL / MILO / NSC / MAS Junior Swimming Circuit, 1st Leg 2023 was held at Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan, Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan on 13-14 May 2023 with more than 30 swimming clubs from around the country making their mark in competitive swimming. Amidst the weekend of intense competition, finally it was the young DSA Swimmers with a staggering total of over 1950 points who won the Overall Championship. The girls in the team contributed almost twice as many points than the boys which is truly remarkable.
Leading the score was young Megan Ho who added her name to the record books with a new Meet record in the 50 Meter Butterfly event in the Girls 11-12 years category. She also added 5 Golds and a Silver to the team medal tally. Olivia Seow Cui Ying with 2 Golds and Kaylee Koh Lee Shen with 1 Gold were the other big winners among the girls, while Evita Tan Ee Lin, Yap Inn Xuan and Kaylee Wong were the other girls with podium finishes. Among the boys, Ho Zhi Ju brought home 4 Golds and a Bronze while Neelkantha Arjoo Segar won a Gold and 2 Silvers and Bronzes and Liew Ze Hou won a Bronze to add to the team total. Besides the medal winners there was a large number of swimmers who finished with the first 24, thereby adding to grand total which was well above and beyond the remaining teams. Being the first leg of the swimming circuit, the swimmers will need to keep up the same momentum and spirits as they prepare for the second leg scheduled for early July in Perak. All credit to the swimmers and parents for their dedication to the training and also to the DSA coaches who have been putting the young swimmers through their paces and bringing out the best in them. Over 10 Meet Records at MIAG by DSA Swimmers
The Malaysian Invitational Age Group Meet 2023 was held on 13-16 April at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil. Swimmers from all over Malaysia and other nations participated in the international level Meet. Many of DSA’s top swimmers also participated in the Meet representing their home states in Malaysia. Sebastien Rion Azlir and Evan Chua Min Hao created new Meet records in the Open category in the Boys 13-14 years group while Liew Ze Hou, Chong Xin Lin, Elsa Eow Yeng Yii, Yap Inn She, Charlotte Loke and Lim Shun Qi created new Records in their respective groups in the Closed category.
Ho Zhi Ju won an amazing 4 Golds in his events while Lewis Mu Zi Long, Ho Megan and Chong Xin Lin took home 3 Golds each in addition to a lot of Silvers and Bronzes. Olivia Seow Cui Ying, Cham Yu Xiang and Yap Inn She won 2 Golds each while Neelkantha Arjoo Segar, Evan Chua Min Hao, Liew Ze Hou, Kaylee Wong, Ng Yean Yu, Elsa Eow Yeng Yii, Charlotte Loke took home a Gold each at their events. Other medal winners included Jiang Boxiu, Sunny Quan Shuxian, Shannon Tan Yan Qing, Kaylee Koh Lee Shen, Yap Inn Xuan, Pok Sin Yee, Sebastien Rion Azlir, Jaydrien Ng Shen Khang, Eunice Wong Ee Yin, Annis Hiew Xin Ting, Gabriel Francis McCartan, Yap Yong Jie, Welson Sim Wee Sheng, Jayden Tan Khai Xin, Liam Eu Li-An, Lau Jin Kiat, Lim Shun Qi, Jerriel Lau, Anne Cecilie Nygaard and Georgene Wee Ee Jern.
