4 Meet Records and 23 Golds at SportExcel Leg 2 at Ipoh


Samuel Koek and Evan Chua star in DSA Swimming Club’s brilliant performance

SportExcel / Milo / NSC / MAS Swimming Circuit Leg 2 2024

The second leg of the SPORTEXCEL/MILO/NSC/MAS Swimming Circuit was held on 2nd to 4th August 2024 at Pusat Akuatik Tuanku Zara, Ipoh, Perak. DSA Swimming Club had a large team of 126 swimmers participating in the Meet and it was a great chance for the team to make the trip outside of Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh, Perak.

The swimmers performed exceedingly well at the Meet with many of them gathering the required points to qualify for the final and last leg of the Circuit to be held later in the year. Top performers included DSA’s Champion Evan Chua Min Hao who created a new Meet Record on the 200 Metres Backstroke event along with his 4 Golds. Young Samuel Koek Gelacio was the new Champion winning 4 Golds in the Boys 11 years and under category and we will be hearing more about this swimming star in the Meets to come.

Marcus Chong Yung Fatt was another star with 3 Golds in his events while Vitus So Teng Hoe took home 2 Golds and both with new Meet Record timings. Aymes Ryan Ee Tian, Ng Yean Yu and Julian Lee also added 2 Golds to the team tally with their big wins while Cham Yu Xiang won 2 Golds and created a new Meet Record in the 100 Meters Breaststroke. Ashley Soh Wern Yi took home the Gold in the 400 Metres Freestyle to bring up the total Golds to 23 for the Swimming Club.

The other podium finishers included Cham Yu Yang, Ethan Chee Wei Jin, Jamie Chee Zhia Xin, Emir Danish, Hew Bo Yu, Charmaine Hung Yun Wen, Hendri James Johan Keeton, Heidi Lim Pei Xin, Neelkantha, Ng Jing Yuen, Ng Yean Yu, Pok Sin Yee, Sophie Maya Leong, Evita Tan Ee Lin, Analey Yap Cai Li, Jayden Yap Ee Jen and Yap Yong Jie.  A detailed view of the medal tally can be downloaded from the links below.

DSA Swimming Clubs create 10 National Records at Short Course Meet


DSA Swimming Club finish as First Runner Up in Bukit Jalil

1st MILO/Malaysia Short Course Swimming Championships 2024

The 1st MILO/Malaysia Short Course Swimming Championships 2024 was held at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil between the 4th to 7th July. The Championships was a Qualifying Meet for the 6th Asian Indoor and martial Art Games 2024 and any other international competitions.

The Meet was open to both Malaysian swimmers and international swimmers living in Malaysia or outside. Sports Schools were also eligible to participate subject to the swimmer eligibility as prescribed. The Meet was conducted in the World Aquatics Short-Course Metres (SCM) format.

A total of 26 swimming clubs and 319 swimmers from all over Malaysia participated in the Meet. DSA Swimming Club had 40 swimmers while DSAS Swimming Club had 37 swimmers in the fray for the exciting short course clash of the champions.

At the end of the four-day Meet of thrilling action, DSA Swimming Club claimed the First Runner Up position while DSAS Swimming Club stood at the fourth place. DSA swimmers smashed through the competition establishing no less than 10 National Records. DSA Champion swimmer Chong Xin Lin established 4 National Records in her events while Jayden Tan Khai Xin created 2 new National Records and Megan Ho added one more in their events and Golds for DSA Swimming Club. Phee Jinq En broke 4 National Records in her events while winning for DSAS Swimming Club.

DSA Swimmers also won the prestigious awards of the Most Valuable Male Swimmer (Open) going to Jayden Tan Khai Xin and Most Valuable Female Swimmer (Open) going to Phee Jinq En. The Most Valuable Female Swimmer (18 years & under) was awarded to Chong Xin Lin.

The top performers for DSA Swimming Clubs also included Lim Shun Qi and Hii Puong Wei who won Golds in their events while Cham Yu Xiang, Evan Chua Min Hao, Koh Teck Chen and Welson Sim Wee Sheng were all podium finishers in their respective events and adding medals to their team tally. Young Zhang blazes with 8 Golds at Novice Meet


9th Novice Swim Meet 2024

The 9th Novice Swim Meet 2024 was held at the Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan, Shah Alam on the 8th and 9th June. The Novice Meets aim to give beginner swimmers a chance to compete and build self-confidence, encouraging their participation in future swimming competitions. Novice swimmers are defined as those who have never competed at the national level for their state or won individual medals in previous State Age Group Swimming Meets.

DSA Swimming Club had a total of 106 young swimmers in the foray, most of them first-timers and totally excited at their exposure of competitive swimming. At the end of the second day, the swimmers had collected a total of 26 medals which included 19 Golds. 8 of these were won by Zhang He Ning who set the pool blazing with her spectacular swimming performance. Natalie Rae Chiew Zhen Ee was the other superstar with her collection of 3 Golds while Kayden Chan Kai De, Shota Izawa and Max Lim Jia Jun won 2 Golds each in their events. Kana Iwasaki and Clifford Yeap Shun Long added 1 Gold each to the team tally while Zhu Yin Lai, Leon Zuehlke, Danielle Rae Chiew Wern Ee, Lai Jee Qi, Jong Qing Fung, Mia Lim Jia Yen, Lee Nahyun and Shahista Karleesha Shahmi were the others who had podium finishes in the 2-day Meet. DSA Swimmers win 36 medals with 15 Golds and 1 Meet Record 

66th MALAYSIA OPEN 2024

The 66th Malaysia Open Swimming Championships (MOSC) was held between 23-26 May 2024 at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil. Held in accordance with the rules and by-laws of World Aquatics, the Meet was the Qualifying Event for the Olympic Games, Paris 2024, the 46thSEA Age Group 2024 and any other international competitions as determined by Malaysia Aquatics.

A total of 50 teams and over 370 swimmers representing their nations and Malaysian states made up the list of participants. The immense participation included nations like India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Maldives apart from the neighbouring Indonesia. Special interest was the participation of nations like Denmark and the United States and a host of African nations like Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Gambia, Malawi, Madagascar, Namibia, Rwanda to name a few.

At the end of the three-day Meet, the top spot was taken by WP Kuala Lumpur with 10 Golds and 21 medals in total. A surprising second spot was Mongolia with 6 Golds who had managed to beat the other Malaysian states like Selangor and Sarawak. A total of 9 new Meet Records was created, which included DSA swimmer Phee Jinq En, who created a new Meet Record in the 50m Breaststroke for her state team, Selangor.

DSA Champion Jayden Tan was declared the Most Valuable Male Swimmer winning 2 Golds and 1 Silver for WP Kuala Lumpur. Other DSA swimmers who won Gold included Hii Puong Wei with 3 Golds and Chong Xin Lin with 2 Golds. DSA Podium finishers were Megan Ho, Lim Shun Qi, Georgene Wee and Joseph Chan Kai Xiang who all brought home medals for their spectacular performances.

In the Relay events Jayden Tan added 2 more Golds for his team, while Chong Xin Lin, Megan Ho, Vitus So Teng Hoe, Cham Yu Xiang and Shannon Tan Yan Qing won Golds for their respective teams. Annis Hiew, Olivia Seow, Lee Yen Yi, Shermann Choong Li Sheng and Hii Puong Wei were the other podium winners in the Relay events.

DSA Swimming Clubs add more Golds to their yearly Meets

1st KL Klasik Invitational Friendly Swim Meet 2024

The first Kuala Lumpur Klasik Invitational Friendly Swim Meet was held on 17-19 May 2024 at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil.

The goal of the invitational friendly meet is to foster positive relationships among swim clubs in Malaysia, particularly those in the Klang Valley. KL Klasik offers an additional platform to encourage new swimmers to participate in competitive swimming and familiarize themselves with World Aquatics swimming rules. The Meet also helps to identify potential achievers from the grassroots level in Malaysia.

The Meet had 2 categories of swimmers; those who have represented their states in the preceding 2 years, either in National Age Group or MSSM were classified as State Swimmers, while those not belonging to the State teams were classified as Novice Swimmers. Besides this, the usual age group classification was also applicable.

DSA, DSAS and DSAJ Swimming Clubs together had a total of 151 swimmers in both the State and Novice categories participating in the Meet. A host of over 40 swimming clubs and around 700 swimmers gathered at Bukit Jalil for the two days of intense competitive swimming. At the end of the final day of the Meet, DSA Swimming Clubs had won a total of 19 Golds in their various events.

The big winners in the Novice Swimmers category included Angus Lim with 7 Golds and Zhang He Ning with 2 Golds. Other winners with Silvers and Bronzes included Ho Xin Pei, Ong Wen Feng, Aidan Lai Yiheng, Lee, Nahyun, Khoo Jia Kai, Olyvia Magdalene Foley, Tay Eu Gene and Chong Jia Ying. In the State Swimmers category Emir Danish was spectacular winning 5 Golds in his events while Anna Maglai won 3 Golds. Yui Hirano also added 2 Golds to her collection and Lee Chi Ning was a podium finisher in her events.

The Relay events brought 7 Golds to the DSA Swimming Clubs and host of Silvers and Bronzes from the many quartets that swam their way to the finishing boards. A detailed view of the Medal Tally for both Novice and State Swimmers can be downloaded from the links below.
