8th Selangor ARENA Short Course Meet 2019

 

DSA Swim Clubs (Selangor & KL) win second overall spot at both State and Novice Divisions with 10 new Meet records

Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan, Shah Alam was the venue for the 8th Selangor ARENA Short Course Sprint Invitational Swimming Championships 2019 held on 27-29 August 2019. Being a Selangor Invitational Meet, all Selangor affiliate clubs including both DSA-Selangor and DSA-KL participated with DSA-KL swimmers participated in the State Swimmers category. Both the clubs had a great time with the young swimmers achieving many firsts and brought home a number of medals in both divisions.

DSA Selangor finished as the first Runner-Up in the Novice category and second Runner-Up in the State category while DSA KL took the first Runner-Up in the State category. There was a number of great performances to record by the DSA team, 19 of the swimmers were in the Overall Top 3 of their own age-group category which is quite a remarkable feat. DSA Champ Fatin Amira Ahmad Hadri won the Best Female Athlete amassing 9 Golds and 2 Silvers with 3 Meet Records with some brilliant performances in the pool. Yap Yong Jie, another of DSA’s favourite won the Best Male Athlete garnering 6 Golds and 1 Silver with 7 Meet Records.

Sajina Aishath – First  Runner-Up (Girls 18 yrs & over).

Yoong Chang Lin Lin – Overall Champion (Boys 10 yrs & under),
Charmaine Hung Yun Wen Lin – Overall Champion (Girls 11-12 yrs),
Jayden Wong Ken Ryu – Overall Champion (Boys 11-12 yrs),
Trisha Chong Sue Yan – Overall Champion (Girls 15-17 yrs),
Lim Le Kun – Overall Champion (Boys 15-17 yrs),
Lee Zi Ying – First  Runner-Up (Girls 13-14 yrs),
Loong Wen Shuen– First  Runner-Up (Boys 13-14 yrs),
Joanne Lew Zi Yan – Second Runner-Up (Girls 11-12 yrs),
Aldreena Wong Chun Rei – Second Runner-Up (Girls 13-14 yrs),
Audrey Wong Mei Yie – Second Runner-Up (Girls 15-17 yrs).

A lot of outstanding swimmers in addition also contributed to the DSA tally which included  Muhammad Zullquman Razali: 3 Golds, Koh Zhi Ying: 6 Silvers, Nicholas Chan Zhe Yan: 1 Gold and Afieq Azrin: 2 Golds among their many medals. Some notable performances were Aldreena Wong Chun Rei winning a Gold on her very first Meet, and Yap Jun Hin and  Isabelle Leong Zi Qing all winning Silver and Bronze in their first Meet too. Seungmin Woo, despite being grouped with older boys in his draw still brought home 3 Silvers from the Meet. And definitely someone to watch out in the coming years is the upcoming champion, Yoong Chang Lin Lin who won a total of 6 Golds and winning the Overall Champion position in his age group.   DSA Swimming Club also had the honour of making a Meet Record in the Mixed 11-12 yrs 4×50 SC Meter Medley Relay  with the quartet of Chong Xin Lin, Alex Sew Jia Wei, Yap Yong Jie and Dian Isandra Johan. It was a great celebration of the team spirit as both the clubs of DSA Swim Team created new Meet records and also took home a host of medals. The swimmers left no stone unturned in their training and the dedication of the swimmers, parents and the DSA coaches have once again shone through. Brilliant performance and onward Team DSA!

DSAS first runner-up at Selangor Long Distance


8th Selangor Long Distance Swim Meet

DSAS Swimming Club retained their first runner-up position at the 8th Selangor Long Distance Championship 2019 held at Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan, Shah Alam on 24-25 August.  Participating with a good team of 54 swimmers, DSAS had equal representation in the Novice Swimmers Division and the State Swimmers Division.

Outstanding performances included Jerriel Lau who was the Overall Champion in the State Division in the Women15-17 Age Group winning 6 Golds.  Eva Chin Tyan Ming, Ethan Chan Zhuo Xi ( 1 Gold), Zhi Jian Tan (3 Golds) were all first Runner-ups in their Age Groups while Adam Jeffrey Dillon finished as the second Runner-up in his age group with 4 Golds in the State Division.

In the Novice Division Megan Wong was the Overall Champion in the Women 11-12 Age Group with 2 Golds while Gha Yuan Ng was the Overall Champion in the Women 15-17 Age Group, also with 2 Golds. Jayden Wong Ken Ryu, Charlotte Loke, Muhammad Zullquman Razali, Trisha Chong Sue Yan and Le Kun Lim were Overall first runner-ups in their respective age groups while Joanne Lew Zi Yan and Zemin Goh were Overall second runner-ups in their age groups. DSA’s Georgene stars at SIPMA 2019

DSA swimmer Georgene Wee Ee Jern dazzled as she won the title of Best Female Athlete of the Games as she brought home a scintillating 6 Golds, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze at the Sukan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia SIPMA 2019 (Malaysia Education Institution Games 2019) held at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil on 21-23 August.

The swimmers of DSA Swimming Club who represented their own schools in the yearly national games included Georgene Wee Ee Jern, Jerriel Lau, Fatin Amira Ahmad Hadri, Elise Wong Ving Yan, Lim Qi Feng, John Lau Jin Kiat and Rowvan Ganesan. Besides these swimmers, DSA Instructor, Evon Heng Kor Jin also participated in the Games representing  Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The medal winners also included Jerriel Lau with 3 Golds, 6 Silvers, Fatin Amira Ahmad Hadri with 2 Golds, 4 Silvers, Elise Wong Ving Yan with 3 Golds, 2 Silvers,  Evon Heng Kor Jin with 5 Bronzes and Lim Qi Feng with 1 Bronze at their events.

Young swimmers win medals in Kuching Meet


1st Sarawak Short Course Sprint 2019

First time competitive experience for junior swimmers

DSA Swimming Club was part of the 400 swimmers from 12 clubs who participated in the 1st Sarawak Short Course Sprint 2019 Meet organized by the Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) and supported by the Sarawak Sport Corporation (SSC). The two day Meet saw participants from both Sarawak and other states of Malaysia besides having some participants from an Indonesian Swimming Club.

The Meet was aimed at providing opportunity and exposure for young swimmers who are beginners and first time completive swimmers. It also serves as a platform to identify potential talent who can be nurtured.

18 young swimmers from DSA travelled to the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, Kuching, the venue for the Meet, a first time experience for many of them to actually travel outside of Peninsular Malaysia to participate in a Swim Meet. The young swimmers had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed their taste of competitive swimming action and brought home many medals from the Meet. The winners included Olivia Cheong Kah Yan, Dian Isandra Johan, Rex Foong Jie Yi and Ashley Soh Wern Yi. A detailed view of the medals tally is given below. Young Swimmers break through to win Overall Championship at Grand Final

Celebrations galore for DSA Swimming Club as they triumphantly brought home their second Championship for the year, winning Top Spot at the Sportexcel Milo/NSC/Asum Junior Swimming Grand Final 2019. Coming into the Meet with the maximum number of qualifiers from the 2 Legs, DSA Swimming Club had all guns blazing from the word go, retaining their lead till the end.   The final tally had 11 Golds and 1 Meet record along with Silvers and Bronzes beating the next best team by over 100 points.

Yap Yong Jie was the Overall Champion in the Boys Group 3 (11-12yrs) with a Meet Record 3 Golds, 1 Silver and 2 Bronzes. Elise Wong Ving Yan won Group 2  (13-14yr) Girls Overall Champion with 4 Golds.  Chong Hiong Kiet also in Boys Group 3 won another 2 Golds in his events, while Chong Xin Lin collected 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bornze in the Girls Group 3. Liew Xiao Rou also in Girls Group 3 added a Gold and 2 Bronzes to the tally.

Other medal winners included Darren Lew Chen Jet with 2 Silvers 1 Bronze, Sebastien  Rion Azlir with 2 Silvers, Ng Yean Yu 1 Silver 1 Bronze, Eunice Wong Ee Yin and Lew Zhi Tong with 1 Silver each. Mellissa Nailly Darwin, Jaydrien Ng Shen Khang, Cham Yu Xiang and Shermann Choong Li Sheng all added Bronzes to the Team wins.

Apart from the podium finishes, DSA Swim Club also had a host of points contributed by swimmers whose valuable efforts made the Championship possible. These include Joelle Koo Yu Qing, Lee Zi Xuan, Annis Hiew Xin Ting, Arniesh Chai Sasheedran, Elizabeth Chan Yiwen, Yoong Chang Lin, Ean Chin Tyan Feng, Liew Ze Hou, Alvina Ching Ru En, Hayley Yap Hay Ee, Samantha Yong Scanlan, Lee Tze-Le, Cheong Hoe Hann and Wong Yu Xuan. After 2 days of hectic action, it was a resounding victory for DSA Swimming Club as they held aloft the Overall Championship Trophy for the Sportexcel Milo/Nsc/Asum Junior Swimming Circuit for the first time at the Kompleks Renang Kuala Lumpur, Bandar Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

A huge morale boosting victory for the Club after the stupendous win clinching the Overall Championship at the MILO/PRAKL Age Group 2019 at the start of the year. This will do in good stead for the Club as the latter half of the swimming calendar comes up with the all important Meet of the year, the President Cup scheduled in late November.
